DESCRIPTION

It's not so often that you open a bag of coffee, peek at the beans, and suddenly gasp with astonishment purely at the visual of what's before you. You could say it takes a wizard to make such magic happen, and considering  the relative rarity of modern wizardry, it's perfectly fair if you've never had an experience like this.

But with just a few more clickity clacks on your keyboard (or tippity taps on your screen), all that could change for you.

Jesus Galeas's "Valeria" is a coffee we'd like to frame and put on our mantle. It is perhaps the most squeaky clean and exquisitely uniform rendition of the Pacamara variety that we've ever seen, and lest we get too far without making one OTHER thing abundantly clear: it smells and tastes incredible too.

Pacaramara is a conspicuously large  and finicky coffee variety that is as notoriously difficult to produce as it is beloved to consume, especially by the coffilluminati of the specialty world. While we try not to get too tangled up in the fray, it's difficult to resist a rendition produced by one of our most venerated farming partners — Jesus "Chungo" Galeas. This year, we sourced two beautiful washed coffees from Chungo's home farm in Selguapa, but also scooped up this naturally-processed Pacamara that he produces on Valeria, a farm in Intibuca that shares its name with Chungo's daughter. This farm is a bit more experimental, and the proceeds here go toward funding  Valeria's education.

A naturally processed Pacamara SEEMS like a risk for the producer and  SOUNDS like a potential gimmick for the roaster, but in Jesus's hands, neither assumption rings true. He is truly a master of his domain, and we are yet to taste a single expression of variety or process that doesn't evoke at least a little bit of that aforementioned wizardry. With this one, it's magic out the wazoo — explosively aromatic, fruit-candy sweet, twinkly on the tongue, and blue in every sense of the word aside from, like, ya' know, sad. Cause it definitely ain't that.

We're thrilled and honored to have purchased the entirety of this tiny little lot, and we know it won't be around for long. This is our first official launch of 2023, and we hope it catapults us into a year of limitless wonder. If anybody can take us there, our money's on this guy.
