Keramo is a washing station located high up in the Bombe Mountains of Sidama, at the dizzying height of 2,360 meters above sea level! ~1,500 smallholder farmers deliver their tiny and dense heirloom variety coffee cherries here, where they’re meticulously and beautifully turned into a stunning suite of both washed and dry process coffees.
This one is a washed rendition, and though it has the tall order of being our FIRST FRESH ETHIOPIA OF 2K24, it’s rising to the occasion with aplomb.
While some of our later entries will be a little bit louder or more bombastic, Keramo’s the sensation of waking up and smelling the flowers: lilac and lavender aromas, wispy citrusy Earl Grey sensations on the sips, and a bouncy staccato energy that’s best likened to lively improvisation, whether the instrument’s a trumpet or a flute. Though light as a feather up front, its flavor profile is filled out with crunchy, chuggable fruit vibes that last year earned the distinction of Piquette right on the sticker, and that are presenting themselves once again very nicely this season.
We went BIG with Ethiopia this year, and are honestly thrilled to showcase how vast and gorgeous this country’s wide spectrum of coffees really is. Missing any entry would be despicably humiliating, but missing the first of all would be an especially profound error that we really, really hope you do not commit.
