For most of our collective coffee careers, Ecuador has not been a country you could take for granted. Availabilities were slim, prices were high, selections were competitive, and “the flavor profile” was somewhat elusive and difficult to describe cohesively enough to plan for. So with all that said, damn. It feels so good to see a coffee from Ecuador now gracing our menu for the fourth straight season. Las Afiladeras is one of those coffees that we are incredibly fortunate to look forward to, year after year. With our importing partner, The Coffee Quest, we’ve been able to appreciate dynamic and excellent offerings from farmer Alberto Jumbo every fall/winter, bringing his work to our catalog every spring. Though the flavor profiles mutate from season to season, we’re yet to be disappointed with the overall quality. Last year’s Fila was Sprite City, whereas this year it’s an omnipresent golden hour glow. Sticky sweet, quincey, and great as both filter and espresso, this is a coffee that we could enjoy bottomless barrels of, but as usual, there ain’t much of it to go around.
