This is our second year featuring Pink Bourbon from Froilan Muñoz, grown in Nariño, Colombia on his farm, Brisas del Mayo. While there’s no shortage of love out there for Pink Bourbon these days, both of Froilan’s offers have especially stuck out to us for how gosh darn round, balanced, and chuggable they’ve been. Last year’s entry was citrusy and creamy, while this one veers more toward stone fruit and syrup, but each has had that airy, buoyant, breezy character that we simply never tire of.
As you may have heard, Pink Bourbon is not actually the Bourbon variety at all — the name is an endearingly resilient misnomer. With its true lineage tracing back to Ethiopia, it’s no surprise that the fruit forward, floral, candy-like sweetness often conjured by Pink B’s have made them so beloved, and yet here in the Touchy Coffee Universe, we often find ourselves most enamored with renditions like Froilan’s, those that present themselves a little bit more mildly and evoke their South American provenance as much or more than their deeper seated roots in the birthplace of coffee.
Balance is in the sip of the beholder, of course, but for us, this one strikes it perfectly.
