DESCRIPTION

It's been quite a wild year in many regards - pandemic anniversary, political madness, climate change en force, supply chain shenanigans; you name it - we've felt it here in the U.S. Now, imagine all of these situations and MULTIPLY them, exponentially, for folks living in Colombia. Then, multiply these issues AGAIN for the Colombian coffee growing community.

Imagine political protests blocking the routes you usually take to bring your coffee cherries to be processed? Imagine ports being blocked or shut down so coffee can't leave the country. Imagine sudden spikes in the coffee commodity market, forcing you to choose between stable, quality based pay for your dried/parchment coffee or fickle, inflated pay for wet cherries. Imagine the cost of essential farm supplies such as fertilizer doubling and tripling in price. These are all very real situations that folks who grow, export and import coffee had to face and continue to wrestle with in Colombia and beyond.

Despite all of this, we are so happy to present coffee from El Alto, a farm project by Hector Osorio and Adriana Aldana. This is our second year buying this lovely coffee through our importer partner, The Coffee Quest, who, on our behalf, sought out an 8+ bag lot of coffee that was sweet, clean and balanced AND destined to be blended in a community lot. Last year's coffee from Hector and Adriana was one of our favorites - caramel sweetness, a balanced citric acidity and had a swift malleability across many brew methods.

This year's coffee is stunningly similar in flavor - caramel, like popping a Werther's Original candy in your mouth, with a spritz of citrus zest and some stone fruited complexity in the lingering aftertaste. This is what we call our "all-day" coffee -- something friendly and approachable that is still interesting and balanced. How lucky are we to share this coffee with you!
