How to make sensational Touchy Coffee using your favorite plastic tube — the AEROPRESS
There are many reasons to love the Aeropress. The main reason is that it was invented by the same guy who also invented the iconic AEROBIE frisbee, but the second reason is that it’s one of the easiest and least fussy ways to make delicious coffee. Don’t believe us? HERE’S THE PROOF, and it goes a little something like this:
1 - Bring some filtered tap water to a boil in any old kettle you’ve got
2 - Weigh 15g whole bean coffee
3 - Grind the coffee medium-fine on a quality burr grinder, usually somewhere in the finest ⅓ of your grinder’s range
4 - Place the Aero filter in the Aero cap and make sure it fits real snug on the Aero body
5 - Place the assembled Aero on your mug or decanter, add the ground coffee (NO NEED TO PRE-WET THE FILTER), level those grounds, and place everything onto a scale
6 - Once that water’s boiled, start your timer and pour 50g of water real quick, giving a little swirl afterward to make sure everything’s saturated
7 - After 30 seconds, add another 175g of water (so that your total water is 225g!), then give another gentle swirl till everything’s all golden brown and creamy looking
8 - Place the Aero plunger on top of the Aero body to keep everything warm/toasty
9 - Once the total time reaches 1:30, plunge the coffee down, and stop as soon as you hear a HISSSSSSS sound
10 - THAT’S IT. START SNIFFING AND SIPPING AND ENJOY.
Pesky problems? We’ve got tips:
- Grind finer if plunger presses too easily
- Grind coarser if plunger is difficult to press
- Grind finer if brew tastes sour or boring
- Grind coarser if brew tastes sharp or astringent
