Finca la Palestina is a second-generation family farm managed by the Alarcón brothers, who divvy up their eleven hectares into seven distinct parcels while each of them also specializes in particular aspects of the cultivation and production processes as well. This Marshell lot fell under the purview of Anibal Alarcón, whose primary technical expertise is fermentation.
We’ve not tasted many (any???) micro-lots exclusively composed of the Marshell variety, but this is a stellar introduction. This one is spicy, strong, and mysterious as a large and furry bipedal cryptid hulking through the wilderness. It’ll undoubtedly make exceptional espresso, but it’s so darn versatile that we can’t even decide how we’re most excited to drink it.
It’s hard to believe that this is only our second season ever featuring coffees from Peru, but suffice to say we are HOOKED! We’re proudly releasing this one concurrently with another eccentric variety stunner from Einer Saldivar, and we’ve also brought back the other producing duo we represented last year—Las Garmas—for a Gesha that’ll have a short but immaculately sweet stint on the menu this spring.
